70+70: Jan Merta + Josef Pleskot

Galerie Zdeněk Sklenář / Litomyšl
20221205 - 20230127

Two prominent personalities of Czech culture – the painter Jan Merta (born 4 December 1952) and the architect Josef Pleskot (born 3 December 1952) – are both celebrating their important birthdays by holding a joint exhibition at Galerie Zdeněk Sklenář under the title of 70 + 70. However, their artistic activities at Galerie Zdeněk Sklenář, where they have collaborated on projects more than once, were not the first time their paths crossed – they are linked by long years of friendship and also by a mere one-day difference in their birthdates.

At what is his seventh exhibition at Galerie Zdeněk Sklenář, Jan Merta is presenting paintings he only finished this year and have thus never before been seen by the public.

At the same time, Josef Pleskot designed for Galerie Zdeněk Sklenar an unusual architectural transformation of the gallerist’s study, and he also installed the pre-Christmas exhibition My Dear Christ Child: The Scene Is SetJosef Pleskot has been collaborating with Galerie Zdeněk Sklenář on an ongoing basis for many years. Amongst other things, he created the designs for modifying the private – but accessible to the public – spaces 1 ar(t) and 2 ar(t) in Litomyšl.
