Lukáš Machalický: Snow Since Morning

Galerie Zdeněk Sklenář / Schönkirchovský palác
13/05/2025 - 30/05/2025

Lukáš Machalický’s entrance (1984) transforms the gallery space into distinctive environment interconnecting architecture, 3D prints and specific objects into a unique, internally harmonised whole. His installation Snow Since Morning is artistically rendered portrait of our time, of the moment before the thunderstorm, which always comes after the period of calm, starts. “The exhibition was created when Zdeněk Sklenář asked me to interact with Bohuslav Reynek. Petrkov, where Reynek lived and created, is an environment of dreamy atmosphere. The world you create for yourself when the real world crumbles… and fiction is the main motif of the exhibition,” said Machalický. Partially adopted and digitally altered series of lanterns and old stoves from Petrkov were made for the exhibition. “I work with them as with characteristics which support the confusion inside and outside. A lantern represents the outside world, the way. On the contrary, the stove is material, firmly anchored in the room,” added Machalický. The fact that a large part of Reynek’s art is set in winter atmosphere was also important for Machalický. “I am fascinated by snow, by how it changes the shaping of space. Places you know well transform with it and you get lost easily. And trying to find one’s way is typical for the present,” adds Machalický.
