Galerie Zdeněk Sklenář presents artworks of the painter and creator of sculptural objects Jiří Matějů. He graduated the Academy of Fine Arts in 1994 and he quickly became established in the Czech art world through his authentic interpretation of geometric abstraction. He is known for his relief paintings and so-called geometric paintings in which he inserts elements of painting into grids. Colours, lines and systematic nature of their use form the basis of his artworks. In GZS, he presents his artworks under the title Alguien which means “someone” when translated. Matějů, whose artistic vision and perception proceeds from philosophical mind-set, emphasises, by the exhibition name, that he considers the value of the artwork and not the author’s identity substantial.
