Sklenář: A Dream Come True

Galerie Zdeněk Sklenář / Schönkirchovský palác
22. 4. - 11. 7. 2026

The exhibition presents the most comprehensive overview to date of the work of the painter Zdeněk Sklenář (1910–1986) in a private gallery. Through a representative selection of paintings from state institutions and private collections, it traces the development of his artistic language—from the young artist’s desire to unite drawing and painting into a harmonious whole to the creation of the unique abstract works that brought him renown.
A Dream Fulfilled is therefore not only a symbolic birthday gift, but also a tribute to an important artist whose legacy shaped subsequent generations. For his nephew and namesake, the gallerist Zdeněk Sklenář, this retrospective represents both a personal and professional milestone, reflecting many years of dedication to preserving and presenting his uncle’s work.
Preparations for the exhibition, originally planned as early as 2019, were unexpectedly interrupted by the COVID period and further delays that followed. Today, however, these are seen as a fortunate confluence of circumstances, as the exhibition takes place in the year when the gallerist Zdeněk Sklenář celebrates his sixty-fifth birthday.
We hope that this largest retrospective to date will become a dream fulfilled not only for its initiators, but also for all admirers of Sklenář’s artwork.
