Exhibition extended until 22 June 2024.
A key work of our national history is ready to meet you in Josef Pleskot's architectural design.
The painting Mlno [Lightning] of 1927 captures the painter’s momentary experience of the world’s unity. It is based on a drawing of a landscape with houses and a clearing in Carona, where Šíma experienced a lightning strike. The significance of this experience, which conveyed a vision of the fusion of elements and enlightenment, an encounter with materialised energy and a sense of unity of the Earth’s mass, stones, trees, water, clouds, air and the power of light stands at the beginning of the painter’s mature work and is reflected in many of his subsequent landscapes.
